The 8 official entries for the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2011) happening this December were announced today, June 17, 2011, by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

And the excitement doesn't end up there: husband and wife Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos, whose movies "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" and "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo" were the Festival Topgrosser during MMFF 2006 and MMFF 2007 respectively, are very much back in the festival with "My Househusband".

Expect the toughest box-office battle this MMFF 2011!

    ***

The three (3) scripts which were submitted but unfortunately didn't make it as an official entry are the following:

"Kimmy Dora N D Temple of Kiyeme" under Spring Films
    Cast: Eugene Domingo

    "Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story"
Cast: George Estregan Jr aka ER Ejercito, Carla Abellana, Bangs Garcia, Sam Pinto, Paloma, Baron Geisler, Robert Arevalo, Perla Bautista, Joko Diaz and Phillip Salvador

MMFF 2010 ends | "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote" is the festival's top-grosser

Three foreign films have opened in Philippine theaters yesterday, a sign that the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2010) has already ended its 14-day run.

Those international films are the Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie starring film "The Tourist", the 3D comedy film "Gulliver's Travels" starring Jack Black and the "Meet the Parents" sequel "Little Fockers" topbilled by Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller.

But due to overwhelming box-office performance, the showing of some of the MMFF 2010 entries has been extended in some theaters.

Yesterday, MMFF chair Ric Camaligan revealed to PEP.ph that the combined gross receipts of all 8 official entries reached P530 million, from December 25, 2010 to January 07, 2011.

The film "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" is the MMFF 2010's official top-grosser, with P159 million, followed closely by the festival's Best Picture "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To" with P157 million.

It's a bit disappointing that "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" only reached that amount. It should have been higher 'coz its opening gross of P31M broke all-time box-office records in the Philippines.

Now I'm getting convinced that there was indeed an exaggeration of the box-office figures released for the festival opening because if you noticed, there were no day-by-day updates from the MMFF committee on the next days.

Here's how the 8 entries fared during the 14-day MMFF 2010:

    With above P100M gross:
    1. Si Agimat At Si Enteng Kabisote - P159M (official figure)
    2. Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To - P157M (official figure)

P50M and above but below P100M:
    3. Dalaw - P96M (official figure)
    4. Shake, Rattle & Roll XII - P50M (official figure)

P10M and above but below P50M:
    5. RPG Metanoia - P27M (estimated amount only)
    6. Rosario - P17M (estimated amount only)
    7. Super Inday and the Golden Bibe - P17M (estimated amount only)

    Below P10M:
    8. Father Jejemon - P7M (estimated amount only)

    TOTAL GROSS: P530 MILLION

MMFF 2010: "Dalaw" earns P40.6 million in 4 days | Kris Aquino wants Ted Failon as her next leading man

MMFF 2010 Box-Office OFFICIAL figures are not readily available for us, unlike in last year's MMFF where everyday, there was an update of the box-office results.

We have lots of "unofficial" figures on the net, but we want the official figures coming from the MMFF executive committee.

In 2009, MMFF chairperson Ric Camaligan even had himself interviewed by news programs and revealed the exact box-office figures of the festival entries.

Good thing that Philippine Star has the official box-office gross for December 25 and PEP posted on its Scoopbox the official receipts for December 26.

    MMFF 2010 1st Day Gross (December 25)
    1. "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” P31M
    2. “Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na ‘To) P20M
    3. “Dalaw” Kris Aquino P12.5M
    4. "Shake, Rattle & Roll XII" P11.8M
    5. "RPG: Metanoia" P5.1M
    6. "Super Inday and the Golden Bibe" P4.7M
    7. "Rosario" P3.2M
    8. "Father Jejemon" P1.4M

    MMFF 2010 2nd Day Gross (December 26)
    1. "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote" P25.7M
    2. "Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To)" P17.8M
    3. "Dalaw" P11.3M
    4. "Shake Rattle and Roll XII" P8.1M
    5. "RPG Metanoia" P4.8M
    6. "Super Inday and the Golden Bibe" P3.1M
    7. "Rosario" P2.3M
    8. "Father Jejemon" P1.0M

"Dalaw" star Kris Aquino happily shared on Twitter this afternoon that her MMFF 2010 entry already has an accumulated gross of P40.6 million as of December 28, 2010.

"Dalaw Dec 28 (day4) Gross: P7.650M. Total Gross to Date (4days): P40,640,800.19. Thank you, GOD! I thank all of u who watched! I thank God for helping us earn consistently! Thank u for the strong box office!

That just means, "Dalaw" has 10 million on the average and might also hit the 100 million-peso mark just like "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" and "Ang Tanging Mo Last Na 'To".

Kris also got the chance to tell everyone on Twitter about a possible movie starring her in 2011 after the box-office success of "Dalaw" which paired her up with muscled actor Diether Ocampo. She asked suggestions from her followers as to who should be her next leading man.

"Tita Malou of Star Cinema asking who I want to work w/ for 2011 movie. Who do u want me on screen with? I said want to be directed by direk Chito or direk Olive. Up to them na the rest. Suggestions?"

And most of the fans answered TED FAILON who's currently Kris' textmate.

"Thanks for your suggestions! I'm sure si Ted ayaw mag movie. Pero praying our talk show pushes thru!."

That's really something exciting to look forward to in 2011.

Dolphy wins both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards in the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival

Comedy King Dolphy was honored both as Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival.

The awarding was held tonight during the festival's Gabi ng Parangal at the Meralco Theater.

Only the Top 3 nominees for each category were announced.

Dolphy won as Best Actor for "Father Jejemon" beating Vic Sotto ("Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote") and Yul Servo ("Rosario").

For the Best Supporting Actor award, Dolphy won for "Rosario" and was the top choice over Alwyn Uytingco (Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To), Roy Alvarez (Father Jejemon) and Sid Lucero (Rosario).

It's Dolphy's first Best Supporting Actor award from MMFF but already his second time to win Best Actor. He previously won in the 1990 MMFF for the movie "Espadang Patpat".

The Best Actress trophy meanwhile went to first-timer Ai-Ai delas Alas for "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To". She bested Marian Rivera ("Super Inday and the Golden Bibe") and Carla Abellana ("Shake, Rattle & Roll 12").

It was a big surprise that Jennylyn Mercado who was highly praised for her performance in the movie "Rosario" was not even one of the Top 3 nominees for Best Actress.

MMDA indeed granted Ai-Ai's wish to give her the award. She has been longing for it. She even kneeled down on national T.V., begging the MMDA to let her win as Best Actress.

Other acting awards went to Eugene Domingo as Best Supporting Actress and Xyriel Manabat as Best Child Performer both for "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To".

Eugene, who already won the same award in 2007 MMFF for "Bahay Kubo", triumphed over Alessandra De Rossi and Gina Pareño both for "Dalaw".

MMFF 2010 Awards Night - Winners: "Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To" wins 9 trophies, including Best Picture

MMFF 2010 Awards Night or Gabi ng Parangal was held Sunday night, December 26, 2010, at the Meralco Theatre.

That's only one day after the festival officially opened nationwide and definitely, the results of the awards night will make an impact on the box-office performance of the movie.

Big winner was Star Cinema's "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To" which won 9 of the 20 categories. And 7 of those 9 awards were really major ones.

Star Cinema for sure never expected "Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To" to win as Best Picture and even Wenn Deramas as Best Director 'coz the movie didn't even get a grade from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

Direk Wenn accepted most of the awards for the movie, including the Best Supporting Actress trophy for Eugene Domingo, who wasn't there to accept the award.

And when his name was called as Best Director, he himself was visibly surprised. "Naawa lang ata kayo sa 'kin sa pagbalik-balik ko dito sa stage...Sobra-sobrang bonus na po ito," he said in his acceptance speech.

"Rosario" meanwhile which got an A from the CEB was only the 2nd biggest winner, with 7 awards. Its director, Albert Martinez, was not even included in the Top 3 nominees for Best Director.

Aside from Direk Wenn, other nominated directors were Mike Tuviera (Super Inday and the Golden Bibe) and Louie Suarez (RPG Metanoia).

"RPG", another A-rated movie, won 4 trophies, "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" had 2 awards while 1 each for "Super Inday and the Golden Bibe" and "Father Jejemon".

Shockingly, "Dalaw" which got a B grade and stars the President's sister Kris Aquino was totally shut off from winning any of the awards. Was it intentional?

On The Buzz Sunday afternoon prior to the Awards Night, Kris Aquino was quoted saying this: "Pinapaubaya ko na po sa kanila ang award, kasi baka batikusin lang po ang pamilya namin at si Presidente Noy."

Regal Films' "Shake, Shattle & Roll 12" also won nothing.

Check out the complete list of winners in the 2010 MMFF:

Best Picture - "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To"

Xyriel Manabat is MMFF 2010 Best Child Performer

6-year-old Xyriel Manabat won as Best Child Performer in the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF 2010 Awards Night held earlier tonight at the Meralco Theater.

Xyriel won for the movie "Ang Tanging Ina: Last Na 'To", an entry from Star Cinema topbilled by Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas.

It's Xyriel's first movie and here she is winning her first acting award.

The other two nominees in the Best Child Performer category were Maliksi Morales for "Dalaw" and Buboy Villar for "Super Inday and the Golden Bibe".

Jillian Ward of "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" was not shortlisted as a nominee.

With this victory, it's not a doubt that Xyriel is the "real" breakthrough child star of 2010.

On TV, she portrayed the young Agua and Bendita, played the title role in "Momay" and starred opposite Zaijian Jaranilla in "Noah".

'Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote' conquers the MMFF 2010 Box-Office | Sequel already set for 2012

Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote has topped the MMFF 2010 Box-Office with over 30 million-peso gross receipts on its first day.

No official figures yet, but according to the estimates reported by Showbiz Central, the said movie which is co-produced by GMA Films, Imus Productions, Octo Arts Films, APT Entertainment and MZET Films had an estimated 1st-day gross of P32 million, the highest opening gross ever by a Filipino movie.

It isn't surprising because "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote" stars two MMFF Kings: Sen. Ramon 'Bong' Revilla Jr and Vic Sotto, whose respective movie in the past MMFFs were really huge hits.

The movie definitely also benefited from being given the chance to promote both on GMA 7 and in some ABS-CBN shows (thru news features and taped interviews with Bong and Vic).

MMFF exec committee Ric Camaligan was interviewed by DZMM this afternoon and he revealed the opening box-office rankings of the 8 entries (also reported by ABS-CBN News):

    1. Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote
    2. Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To
    3. Dalaw
    4. Shake, Rattle & Roll 12
    5. Super Inday and the Golden Bibe
    6. Rosario
    7. Father Jejemon
    8. RPG Metanoia

PEP's @scoopbox has unofficial figures, but with different rankings:

    1. Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote P31M
    2. Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To P20M
    3. Dalaw P12.5M
    4. Shake, Rattle & Roll 12 P11.8M
    5. RPG Metanoia P5.1M
    6. Super Inday and the Golden Bibe P4.7M
    7. Rosario P3.2M
    8. Father Jejemon P1.4M

    ***

And because of this huge success of "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote", Senator Bong has hinted that a sequel is coming possibly in 2012, not in 2011, coz he has Panday Part 2, which is being prepared for the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival 2011.

MMFF 2010: "Rosario", "RPG Metanoia" both graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board

Only 2 of the 8 entries in the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF 2010 have been graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

And these are the period drama film "Rosario" and the 3D animated film "RPG Metanoia".

"Rosario" is the first directorial movie of critically-acclaimed actor Albert Martinez, co-produced by Cinemabuhay International and Studio 5. It stars Jennylyn Mercado, Dennis Trillo, Sid Lucero and Yul Servo in their award-worthy performances.

"RPG Metanoia" meanwhile takes pride as the 1st 3D animated movie ever produced in the Philippines. Directed by Louie Suarez, it features voices of Zaijian Jaranilla, Vhong Navarro, Eugene Domingo and Aga Muhlach.

And since the MMFF 2010 criteria for Best Picture no longer includes box-office receipts, is it now safe to say that either Rosario or RPG Metanoia will win as Best Picture? We will see come Awards Night on December 26.

As for the other MMFF 2010 entries, 2 were given a grade of B ("Dalaw", "Super Inday & the Golden Bibe") while no reported grade for the 4 other films ("Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote", "Shake, Rattle & Roll 12", "Father Jejemon", "Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To").

The MMFF 2010 Parade of Stars happens tomorrow, December 24, and the showing officially starts Christmas Day, December 25.

Jennylyn Mercado goes extra daring in her MMFF 2010 movie "Rosario"

Portraying a role of a liberated Filipina from New York, Jennylyn
Mercado for sure will have lots of daring scenes in her upcoming movie
"Rosario", which is an official entry in the 2010 Metro Manila Film
    Festival (MMFF).

But definitely, those daring scenes do not make up the whole of "Rosario".

    Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo

Set in the 1920's, "Rosario" stars Jennylyn Mercado in her most
    challenging role ever.

Based on the movie trailer alone, I can already say that Jennylyn has an award-worthy portrayal in "Rosario".

Sorry to Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas (Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To) who is
begging MMFF committee to let her win the Best Actress award this year, but Jennylyn is going to be the strongest contender for the
award. (That is if politics won't play a major role in the selection.)

I have watched already the trailers of all 8 official entries and I was impressed with "Rosario". It's like a Hollywood movie.

This may not be on top of the box-office, but it might win many awards along with Star Cinema's RPG Metanoia.

But of course, I'm just basing it on the trailers and my opinion might change as soon as MMFF 2010 officially begins December 25 and got to watch, hopefully all 8 entries.

    ***

Produced by Cinemabuhay International and Manny Pangilinan's Studio 5, "Rosario" also stars Dennis Trillo, Yul Servo, Sid Lucero, Eula Valdez, Ricky Davao, Isabel Oli, Empress, Jerould Aceron with the special participation of Phillip Salvador and Dolphy.

It's under the direction of Albert Martinez.

"Dalaw", "RPG Metanoia" & "Ang Tanging Ina: Last Na 'To" movie posters and trailers revealed!

Star Cinema has revealed the official movie posters and trailers of its 3 official entries in the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival or the MMFF 2010.

    Check them out:

I like best the poster of "RPG Metanoia" but the bloody red poster of Kris Aquino's comeback film "Dalaw" is more inviting.

Of these three, I'm actually gonna watch Dalaw first, then RPG and lastly, "Ang Tanging Ina: Last Na 'To".

All produced by Star Cinema, 2 of which are co-productions with other film outfits: Cine Media for "Dalaw" and Ambient Media for "RPG".

It's the first time that Star Cinema, the country's top movie producer, has 3 entries in MMFF.

Two of those films are expected to be among the 3 top-grossers in the MMFF 2010, and also two of them are strong contenders for the Best Festival Picture award, which has a new criteria this 2010 (70% Artistry, Creativity and Technical Excellence, Innovativeness,
Thematic and Global Appeal; 30% Filipino Cultural and / or Historical Value). It no longer includes the first 3 days box office performance.

(Fun Poll) 36th MMFF 2010 Official Entries

Based on the trailer alone, it already looks terrifying and interesting to watch. Love the visuals and the sound effects.

"Super Inday" and "Shake, Rattle & Roll 12", Regal's official entries in the MMFF 2010

Just like in the previous years' Metro Manila Film Festival, Regal Films or Regal MultiMedia will have more than 1 official entries in the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival, which runs December 25, 2010 to January 7, 2011.

One is the Marian Rivera-starring "Super Inday and the Magic Bibe" and the other one is the trilogy Shake, Rattle & Roll XII (SRR 12).

"Super Inday and the Magic Bibe" is a remake of the 80's box office
hit starring Maricel Soriano. And this time, Marian Rivera is the new Super Inday.

It marks Marian's first "solo" movie (where she gets solo top-billing) and will test her box office magic without banking on a loveteam.

Also part of this Mike Tuviera film are Jake Cuenca, Pokwang, John Lapus, Mylene Dizon, Jairus Aquino, Sheena Halili, Sabrina Man and Buboy Villar.

The Metro Manila Filmfest won't be complete without the horror trilogy
Shake, Rattle & Roll. Now on its 12th installment, it stars 3 of today's teleserye leading ladies: Shaina Magdayao, Andi Eigenmann and
Carla Abellana, who are all starring for the first time in an SRR
    movie.

Shaina leads cast of "Mamanyika" episode directed by Zoren Legaspi (his first in the movies). She is supported by Ricky Davao, Carmina
    Villaroel and Rita Avila.

Jerrold Tarog meanwhile directs "Punerarya" episode featuring Carla Abellana, Sid Lucero, Mart Escudero, Gaby dela Merced and Nash Aguas. (It's the 4th SRR for Mart and 3rd for Nash.)

The 3rd episode is directed by Topel Lee. Entitled "Isla Engkanto", whose cast includes Andi Eigenmann, Rayver Cruz, Regine Angeles, Kristel Moreno, Niña Jose and John Lapus (just like Mart, he's now on his 4th consecutive SRR movie).

What do you think guys of the box office potential of these 2 movies in the MMFF 2010? There will be 8 competing films and these 2, I think, will rank in the middle when it comes to the box office gross,
anywhere from 3rd to 6th places.

    Marian Rivera as Super Inday

One of Regal Films' two entries in MMFF 2010, Super Inday and the
Magic Bibe is directed by Mike Tuviera and marks Marian's comeback movie in MMFF.

In MMFF 2009, Marian was supposed to be part of the filmfest but her entry "Nieves" didn't push through.

Super Inday and the Magic Bibe is Marian's 6th MMFF movie after Enteng Kabisote 2 in 2005, Desperadas and Bahay Kubo in 2007, Desperadas 2 in
2008 and Shake, Rattle & Roll X also in 2008.

Also part of Super Inday and the Magic Bibe are Jake Cuenca, Mylene Dizon, John Lapus, Buboy Villar, Sabrina Man and Vice Ganda.
